Adventures in Potlucking...
Sunday's the day. We'll be celebrating 3 incredible years of sharing lots of wonderful, yarny goodness with you - our friends and extended family - during our 3rd Anniversary Potluck Party. The party starts at 1:00pm and lasts until closing. We'll have hourly door prize drawings and some special sale items that will only be available on Sunday. Oh, and air conditioning. Can't forget that. It's hot out there (or was that a hot flash?) and a cool, comfortable room with lots of yarn and a big table to knit around is a wonderful thing during the summer, don't you think?
What are you bringing to the potluck? Your favorite dish? A dessert you've been wanting to try out? A bottle of Prosecco (yes, Sandi, I'm talking to you)? Peanut butter cookies (that's for you Hope)? Java Floes (Susan)? Corn pudding (Kim)? If I can find the time, my planned contribution to the potluck table will be Cranberry Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies made using this recipe. I've been making James' yummy cookies for a few years now, but I usually substitute dried cherries for the cranberries and sometimes I use walnuts instead of pecans. And yes, these cookies are as delicious as they look in the photo. By the way, James is also an accomplished jazz photographer and writer. Check out his jazz related work here.
New Knitting Sites...
Interweave Press has just launched a new website called Knitting Daily. They have a ton of free knitting, crochet and felting patterns. In fact, I've just cast on to make their Summer Shawlette - a super-cute mini faroese-style shawl made with 2 skeins of Jade Sapphire's 4-ply Mongolian Cashmere (which we have in stock, by the way). This is a great new resource.
Now... picture this. It's after midnight. You can't sleep so you're working on your current project. Then something goes wrong and you have a question that needs answering now. What do you do? Turn on the computer and go to Knit911 or Crochet911 and get the answers you need. Where was this site when I was learning how to knit?
Random Thoughts...
Graduation season is in full swing so we have to send a big "Happy Graduation" shout out to one of our favorite young knitters (and occasional employee) Brancey who just graduated from Venice High. You may have met Brancey on one of the many afternoons she stopped in after school to knit with us. She's a beautiful, intelligent, amazing young lady and we are so incredibly proud of her. We'll miss her smiling face more than she knows when she heads off to college in the fall.
