Read a great article in the Los Angeles Times about a senior knitting group at the Hollywood Senior Citizen's Center - coordinated by the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program). It brought back lots of great memories of spending time and meeting many, many wonderful seniors there while my Grandmother was the director of the RSVP program when I was in high school... (thanks for the heads up Marla)
A Mano Yarn Center is a donation site for Knit for the Cure.
HOW: To participate in Knit for the Cure all you have to do is make something that incorporates pink in some way. Hats, scarves, shawls, armwarmers - anything your heart desires.
WHEN: Drop off your work of art and heart at A Mano Yarn Center by Saturday, March 7
WHY: Because 10 million women could be affected by breast cancer over the next 25 years and YES was can do something about it!
Donated items will be sold at the upcoming Race for the Cure and given to breast cancer patients.

This is Peg, the newest member of the A Mano Family. He's a 3-eyed, peg-legged space pirate who loves to explore his new home. Here he is climbing the wall o' yarn. Last time we saw him he was headed toward a boat in the marina. Peg is a little lonely, though - he is a long way from home, after all. Won't you come to his rescue and make Peg a friend. Right before TNNA, the first issue of Handknit Heroes, the world's first graphic novel for knitters, arrived in my mailbox. Imagine a comic book featuring teenagers with superpowers, a mother who owns a yarn shop... its pretty cool. Of course I ordered some for the shop - it looked like a perfect addition for us.
In the meantime, Annette & I made our annual trek to TNNA and right before we headed home, I saw the Handknit Hereos table and had a chance to meet and chat with creator and writer Stephanie Bryant and illustrator Marc Olivet. We had such a good time that I invited Stephanie to come preview Handknit Heroes at the shop and on Wednesday, Stephanie came by, joined us at the table and told us all about how Handknit Heroes came to be.
She brought our copies of the comic with her, and we sold completely out of them (and the extras she brought with her) by the end of the night! Not to worry though, we've ordered more and they should arrive early next week so if you want to grab a copy you still can. It was a wonderful evening and a good time was had by all. It was great having Stephanie join the circle and we can't wait to have her back the next time she's in LA.
It's time for our Annual Bad Girl Knit Night Holiday Party and Gift Exchange! By popular request, this year's festivities are a little early in order to accommodate the parents in the crowd. Now you don't have to choose between us and your kids' holiday programs and performances. We know we'd win the coin toss, but your kids would never forgive us. ;-)

And if you want participate in our White Elephant Gift Exchange (you know you want to, last year was a blast), bring a wrapped gift valued at $10-20.
